Road trip! Carolyn caught this great shot. Train in background, sign in the mirror, on our  sojourn to see The Moody Blues
Great Seats right in front and middle of stage.
Of course some Ste Michelle Cold Creek Merlot for the room.
The Moody Blues!
As the Moody Blues took the stage, puffs of smoke appeared everywhere as that familiar aroma wafted through the air. That was November 2, 1969, the first time I saw the Moody Blues.
On this wonderful 75 degree day sitting on the green at Chateau Ste Michelle... Was it just fond memories or...?
Sit back and enjoy the ride (My See-Saw) as we share our day at The Moody Blues with you...
The throngs of guests waiting to enter the concert.
A photo of some folks enjoying the day. This is one of my favorite shots.
That's Ted Baesler, CEO of Ste Michelle Wine Estates,  with Carolyn at the reception. Hey! How'd he get an All Access Pass???

The Grounds!
As we arrived at the Chateau we could not have asked for better weather to see an outdoor concert.
There was a relaxed atmosphere with people enjoying tours of the Chateau and having picnics on the grounds. Even though the concert
did not start until 7:00 most of the crowd had gathered much earlier in the day. The great thing about Chateau Ste Michelle concerts is that you can purchase wine right in the tasting room to enjoy on the grounds and take into the concert!
We would like to thank all of the staff at
Chateau Ste Michelle for their generosity in hosting us at the VIP Reception, the absolute perfect service all day at the Chateau and the simple fact...
these folks really know how to put on a concert!

This is one of the most photographed barrels in the world. Who are those people? Shot taken by a Ste Michelle staff member.
The Concert!
A return to see the Moody Blues after 40 years!

I was supposed to see the Moody Blues and the Jefferson Airplane at the Forum on October 31st, 1969. They were flying in from London to kick off the latest leg of their tour. Their flight was late, they did not clear customs, so we were estatic when the Jefferson Airplane treated us to a 3 hour concert. The promoter came out midway through and announced the Jefferson Airplane and The Moody Blues would perform a free concert at Elysian Park (next to Dodger Stadium) two days later. It became known as the Love-In at Elysian Park. :-)

Fast forward 40 plus years and here we are. It's funny, you get up every morning, look in the mirror for a few minutes and then go about your day. It takes, sometimes, a day like this to see that we have gotten older, matured in body and mind... but not in spirit!

The concert started a little late and it took a few songs to get the amps and P.A. system dialed in, but after that it was a truly enjoyable evening. Justin Hayward's voice had given out on him a week earlier in Colorado and because of that I believe they stayed away from a couple of songs like "Lovely To See You" and "Tuesday Afternoon." Two of my favorite moments were when Graeme Edge stepped up to the microphone to recite "Late Lament" from the "Days of Future Passed" album and also when he told the audience he had just turned 70 and had now lived through the 60's twice. Best songs of the evening in my mind were "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" and "Higher and Higher" a Graeme Edge song where he came down from his drums to sing and lead the song. A very fun moment in the concert.

Was this the best concert I've seen. No. Those moments rest comfortably in the memories of my youth.
Was it worth seeing the Moody Blues again after 40 years? Absolutely!

As the lyrics go...
"Lovely to see you again my friend."
Yes, it was. Thank You Moody Blues!
